What Are the Dimensions of a Legal Pad

As mentioned earlier, although legal stamps are available in a variety of colors, they are usually found in yellow (canary). At this point, you`re probably wondering, “Why yellow?” It may be a disappointment, but how yellow became the primary color is still a mystery. Thomas Holley is unlikely to start making legal stamps of this color, as the death process would cost him more and ruin his business plan. No one seems to know when the legal tampons were produced yellow or why. Could it be easier to read with contrasting black ink on yellow paper without dazzling, or was it finally dyed yellow to hide the fact that it is made of old paper? Your guess is as good as ours. If you have an idea (as crazy as it is) of how legal notebooks turned yellow, share it in the comments box below! TOPS Legal Pad notebooks offer the ultimate value of reliable everyday documents for the home or office. Yet why is it called a legal buffer? In 1900, a judge in Holyoke, Massachusetts, asked his assistant to find or create a notepad with a border on the left side of 1 1/4. Traditionally, it is yellow paper with blue horizontal lines and a red vertical line on the left that creates a border. You can buy them in the length of a legal brief (8 1/2″ x 14″), but the length of the paper has nothing to do with why we call it a legal block. In North America, plain paper is available in a variety of semi-standardized sizes.

Keep in mind that all legal blocks have a vertical line drawn 1-1/4″ up and down on the left side of the paper to create a border: “I need a legal block.” You know what it is, but do you know what it means? Note: A “legal block” does not mean that the paper size on the block itself is a legal size (8-1/2″ W x 14″L), although it can be ordered this way. A legal stamp simply means that the paper on the stamp has a vertical line that creates a 1-1/4″ edge on the left side. In 1888, Thomas Holley worked in a paper mill. Every day, the mill threw away the leftover paper from the large sheet of paper (what a waste!). Holley didn`t want this old paper to be wasted, so he cut the sheets to the same size and tied them together to create the first legal blocks. The only requirement for a block of writing paper to be considered a “legal block” is that the paper must have a 1-1/4″ vertical line (also known as a “descending line”) on the left edge of the page. The original and traditional look of the legal block had yellow paper, blue horizontal lines, a red vertical line forming a left edge and a red rubberized top. Today, this is no longer the case. Legal notebooks may or may not be ordered by court judgment and in a legal document. In fact, neither the width of the rulers (or lines) on the paper nor the size of the paper on the block classify a block as a “legal block”. If you`re still not sure, here are some helpful tips to help you figure out which Legal Pad to order.

I think we could call it a judge`s block, but we ended up calling it a legal block. You might think that legal blocks are like any other notebook, right? What sets Legal Pads apart from other notebooks is the 1 1/4″ edge on the left. This margin was added in the early 1900s, at the request of a judge who wanted room for comments next to his notes (hence the name “Legal Pads”). Legal also refers to judgment or space between horizontal lines. That being said, legal stamps don`t necessarily have the legal size (but come in 8.5 x 14). You can also find them in Brief (8.5 x 11) and Junior Legal (5 x 8) sizes. Here`s a list of all the size and control options available: The only thing that qualifies a writing pad as a legal block is that it must have a vertical line on the left that creates a margin of 1 1/4″. It can be of any color, length or size and the lines can be of any width. It is this specific margin that makes it a legal buffer.
