B-Spec consists of front-wheel drive vehicles with moderate power-to-weight ratios. Cars are allowed to make limited powertrain modifications and many cars drive with an accelerator to balance power at around 100 horsepower. Simple suspension modifications are allowed to allow for race-ready shock absorbers, better spring rates and adjustable ride heights. This is NOT a course for people who like to make shock absorbers or spend endless hours readjusting shock absorbers. This is a class of drivers with a set of rules designed to encourage reasonable costs, tight cubes and camaraderie. These cars are not intimidating for beginners to build or drive and they are commonly known as the cheapest SCCA class. An example: a pilot who previously held an SCCA license but has not raced for several years. Depending on this person`s previous racing record and the length of the release, it is possible that the Divisional Licensing Administrator will re-issue the pilot with a full competition licence. Or the administrator may require a “retread” to complete a driving school or private running school before considering a waiver.
